We are very proud to announce that POSSIBLE and Life After Hate won a Shorty Social Good Award in Artificial Intelligence for #WeCounterHate — a campaign that has already helped reduce the spread of hate speech on Twitter by more than 9 million impressions this year.
POSSIBLE, a creative agency based in Seattle, built this people-powered, machine-learning platform around a simple strategy: Making people think twice before retweeting hateful content.
First, AI helps identify tweets containing hate speech. Once identified, they’re tagged with a reply. This permanent marker lets those looking to spread hate know that retweeting will commit a donation to Life After Hate.
We’re thrilled to have been a part of this campaign. It reminds us that we are not helpless in the face of hate speech on social media. Together we are a force.
